The speciality of artistic design was a key subject of former Hebei Light Industry School , and it was established in 1959. It has trained about 2000 talents on specialities of artistic design and painting for Hebei Province and North China . Hebei Light Industry School was incorporated into Hebei Polytechnic University in Mar. 2000, and the College of Arts was established in June 2004. There are two undergraduate course specialities with 5 subspecialities in the college now, the two specialities are artistic design and painting, and the five subspecialities are decoration, environmental art, ceramic art, oil painting and Chinese painting, etc. There are 430 students in the college now.

There are 30 teachers in the College of Arts now, and there are 7 professors and associate professors. They respectively graduated from key colleges and universities in China , such as Fine Arts College of Tsinghua University, Tianjin Fine Arts Institute and Lu Xun Fine Arts Institute, etc. Some professional books written by five teachers have been published. Teachers and students from the college won one gold medal, two silver medals and six bronze medals in North China contest on package design. TV documentaries on six teachers' artistic creation have been shot by CCTV, Hebei TV and Tangshan TV. Six teachers participated in the writing of teaching materials on painting and artistic design for colleges and universities of Hebei Province in 2001. Many pieces of academic papers were published by some key magazines, and works on design and painting were selected in kinds of exhibitions for many times, some works on design won the bid of major projects, some were awarded prizes. The college has formed a potentially academic group with lots of talented persons, and it has made great contribution to the development of economy and culture by training of high quality talents and by creation of high quality works.
