The College of Economics and Management was established in 1985. It has currently 64 faculty and staff members and 2193 students including undergraduates and graduates. The specialties include Business Administration, International Business and Economics, Information Management and System, Finance, Public Policy and Management for undergraduate students. The specialty of Industrial Economics is for graduate students. The establishment and combination of specialties manifest an integration of information technology, management science and economics, being one of the three pillar disciplines of the university.
The College consists of five departments including Business Administration, International Business and Economics, Management Science and Engineering and Public Policy and Management; three research centers including institute of Industrial Economics, Institute of Information Engineering and Institute Finance; three centers including library in which there are over 8000 books and over 140 periodicals, experiment Center and training center. Educational research department is established with Office of National Fund of Natural Science, Office of Software Engineering, Office of Discipline Building, and Academic Office for Graduates.
There are 55 full-time teachers. Among the professional teachers there are 23 professors and associate professors, 10 tutors for graduates, 5 provincial and municipal experts, 5 teachers with PhD degree, 21 teachers with master degree and 7 are studying for doctor¡¯s degree and 12 for master degree.
We have made some achievements in Scientific Researches including 3 projects under National Fund of Natural Science or National Fund of Social Science, 17 provincial or departmental projects, 13 rewards at provincial level, 24 books published, 233 academic papers of which over ten were admitted to SCI, EL, or ISTP. Besides we have won Tangshan Science Development Reward several times, with 5 people named Outstanding Experts at municipal or provincial level.
Evermore frequent exchanges with domestic and foreign counterparts are carried out. We have established academically collaborative relationships with Chinese Academy of Social Science, Tianjin University, Leeds University and Lincoln and Hemshire University, UK. Officials and experts from government agencies, well-known companies and institutions have been enlisted as part-time professors of the College. Over ten graduates from the College have been sent to prestigious universities abroad such as Leeds pursuing for Master or Doctor Degrees.
Introduction to Specialties
1. Business Administration (4 years)
Students are expected to systematically master economic and managerial theories and management techniques so as to become managers for business and institutions. Main courses are as follows: Economics, Statistics, Accounting, Management Theories, Operational Management, Human Resource Development and Management, Corporate Strategy, Technological Economics, Management Information System, Logistics Management, Marketing, Economics Law and so on. The specialty consists of two majors: marketing and corporate management.
2. International Business and Economics (4 years)
The goal of this specialty is to produce dynamic, innovative and specialized workforce with comprehensive knowledge structure concerning foreign trade and economics. The main courses are as follows: College English, Foreign Trade English, International Trade Theories and Policies, International Business, Engineering Technology, Computer Language and E-commerce, etc.
3. Information Management and Information System (4 Years)
Students are expected to become sophisticated and practical workforce who masters modern management theories and tools, computer technology, which enable them to analyze, design, develop and evaluate management information systems.
The main courses include: Industrial Economics, Accounting, Management Theories, Operational Research, Computer Programming Technology, Managerial Communications, Data Structures, Theories and Applications of Data Base, Computer Network, Management Information System, E-commerce and System Analysis and Design. Graduates are suited for job concerning information system analysis, design, implementation and services, and information management in administrative department, business, IT firms, financial institutions and academic institutions, etc.
4. Finance (4 Years)
This is designed to produce sophisticated workforce who are competent in financial affairs management and operations to work in banks, security firms, investment institutions, insurance companies as well as other firms and institutions. The main courses include: Economics, accounting, Statistics, Insurance, Security Investment, Banking practices, International Financial Affairs, Network Technology and E-commerce, etc.
5. Public Policy and Management (4 Years)
This course is designed to help students to gain competency in modern management theories, techniques, and methodology with high awareness of public management philosophy and strategy, collaborative skills and practical abilities to work in such areas as culture and arts, education and research, propaganda, environmental protection, community services, social security, broadcasting and news and publication, etc.
