College of Resources and Environment

The college of Resources and Environment can be dated back to the earlier Mining department in Hebei Polytechnic University. In 1959 the Mining and Metallurgy department of Tianjin University was merged into it. Since the establishment of it, we have always adhered to the principles of ”°keeping a foothold in Hebei and turn towards the whole country”± and have brought the courses into full play, which have done a great contribution to the talents' cultivation, scientific research, and intellectual supports and so on. At present, the college has developed into a multi-disciplinary engineering college centered on the characteristics of resources and environment.

The college has four departments, which is mining, mineral processing, geology, and environment and opens four specialties for bachelor degree, which is Ore-dressing , Ore -processing engineering, Resource Exploration Engineering and Environmental Engineering and four specialties for master degree, which is Ore-dressing, Safety technology and project, Ore-processing engineering and geological engineering. The total number of the students in college has reached more than 790.

The college is well structured and composed with a large powerful group of teachers. Now it has a faculty of 11 professors, 8 assistant professors, 11 doctors, 6 doctors on the course and 20 postgraduate tutors. It has two key laboratories in Tangshan , which are ore-dressing and safety technique key lab and new environmental protection technique key lab. We have got long-term research and cooperation relationship with Hebei Metallurgy design institute, University of science and technology Beijing, Northeastern university China, Tangshan of China coal research institute, University of Leeds, University of New South Wales in Australia and so on. Nowadays, it has become an important base for fostering talented people and conducting science and technology research in the domain of mining and environment.

We have achieved a lot in the scientific research in recent years. We have undertaken several national research items and more than 30 provincial scientific research items and won more than 10 technological achievement prizes, 2 national newly practical patents and 15 bureau-level technological achievement prizes. Moreover, more than 300 papers are issued at home and abroad, among which over 30 pieces are embodied into the three big indices and more than 20 monographs and masterpieces are published. Besides, we have formed many characteristic research directions, such as metal mine land reclamation, mining from open field to underground, mine safety technique, Ore-processing engineering and its synthesized application and stability tests for geotochnics. At present, the college has undertaken one research program from national 863 research programs, one from national natural science fund and several from the province and municipality.

Introduction to Mineral processing department

This department is mainly responsible for the teaching and research in the aspects of metallic minerals (including black metals, Non-ferrous metal and noble metal) and non-metallic minerals. It aims to foster applied talents of this major or close to the major in the directions of advanced management and technique.

This department not only possesses highly theory levels but also achieved the cutting edge on scientific research in the domain of mining industry. It has already taken part in finishing dozens of national research items and provincial items and hundreds of lateral direction scientific research items, among which one has got the national reward and several has received the provincial and city awards. More than 100 papers are issued on national journals and4 monographs and masterpieces are published. We have applied and been approved four national inventive patents. After several years of construction, the mining department with the platform of research, centered on Ore-processing engineering and equipped with Complete routine laboratory and mineral resources further processing laboratory, has been able to undertake all-level lengthwise and widthwise research items.

The students graduating from this department have become the middle or high managers and technicians all over the country and have received favorable comments within the industry.

Introduction to the department of geology

The department of geology with a history of over 40 years can be dated back to the teaching and research section on resources and environmental engineering. There are five laboratories, such as rock bed lab, ancient biology minerals lab, polarizing microscope lab, incident light microscope lab and petrography analysis lab. It mainly undertakes the teaching and research work on mineral resources survey, environmental geology, hazard geology, engineering geology, technical mineralogy and so on. The students graduating from this department will be applied talents on advanced management and operation of this major or close to the major. This department has participated finishing 14 national or provincial research programs one after another, among which there are 3 has reached the international level and 2 are advanced in the country. Moreover, 144 pieces of paper and 4 monographs are published. By many years' efforts, it has developed 3 characteristic research directions that are environmental geology, disaster geology and technical mineralogy.

Introduction to department of environment

As the outstanding environmental problems arising from the mining field during the course of developing mining, mineral processing, steel and metallurgy and chemistry, we have added this environmental engineering department. By many years' development, it has taken on many vivid characteristics on multipurpose use of solid waste and ecological recovery in mining areas.

According to the talents fostering principles ”°thickening bases, valuing practice and strengthening abilities”±, we have given prominence to the education of major quality and comprehensive quality and emphasized the basic major skills of the students so as to foster enterprising applied talents with firm foundations, practical skills and high-adaptive abilities.

Introduction to Mining Department

There is a long history behind the mining department in Hebei polytechnic university. It can be dated back to mineralogy subject of the first modern university built in China in 1895. In 1951 the subject developed into Mining and Metallurgy department of Tianjin University and in 1959 it was integrated into Tangshan Mining College . After the great earthquake in Tangshan in 1976, the mining department had a new development during the course of the university's rejuvenation and reconstruction. It was granted the right of mater gift in 1993 by the state council and was granted the right of master degree in the domain of mining engineering 2002. We have always adhered to the principles ”°keeping foothold in Tangshan to serve the province and the whole country and provided more than 3000 graduates to mining enterprises and correlated units, which makes his department an important base for fostering mining talents in Hebei province.

In recent years, we have achieved a lot on teaching and research. We have finished over 20 lengthwise scientific research programs and over 100 widthwise ones, which has created a great amount of economic benefits. Moreover, more than 300 pieces of paper are issued on journals at home and abroad and over 10 monographs and textbooks are published. By our continuous efforts, we have developed 3 characteristic research directions, which is mining technical theory, ecological rejuvenation and reconstruction in mining area and mine safety, especially the theories of mining from open field to underground, ecological rejuvenation models in mining area and non-osculant gas prediction has obtained a good result, which leads to an important influence in the whole country.
